Condition: Silver $10 proof coins 'The Relay Team and 'The Champions' 1oz each diameter 40mm. Gold $200 coin 'The Gymnast', 16.97 grams diameter 29mm. Case is slightly faded, does not come with outer box. All with certificate of authenticity.

In 1993, the Royal Australian Mint issued this $200 Gold coin ad 2 x $10 values, to commemorate the centenary of the modern day Olympic Games. The first Olympic Games of modern era were held in Athens, Greece in 1896. Frenchman Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), is considered the father of the modern Olympic Games.

Gold Coin Highlights:

• Contains .4959 oz actual Gold weight.

• Coin is in Polished Proof condition, and comes in a quality protective plastic case.

• Struck at the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra.

• Obverse: Features a gymnast in flight, the Olympic rings above dates 1896-1996, and a laurel wreath.

• Reverse: Depicts the Raphael Maklouf portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, denomination and date.

This was an IOC endorsed issue to Celebrate the Century of the modern Olympics 1896-1996. The Olympic motto of “faster, higher, stronger” (citius, aktius, fortius) is edge lettered around each coin, this is the first time any Australia coins were so inscribed.
